A Note
on Used Piano Option: |
|
|
|
A Piano
is a
marvel
of engineering that depends on
top-quality materials, impeccable
craftsmanship and unflagging care to produce
good music. The piano has profited greatly
in tone and performance as a result of
technological improvements, and quality
modern piano (certainly - not every
new shiny piano) is, indeed, a good -
however costly choice. Still, the best new
pianos are those made by hand, in smaller
quantities using (just like in old times)
finest natural materials most importantly
quality woods. Knowing the price of quality
new piano, we advice potential buyers to
seriously consider the option of purchasing
a restored (not as-is!) older piano
that caries a warranty.
In past years Clarkson Piano Centre has
restored numerous used pianos that, after
sold at reasonable cost, continue to offer
reliable performance and beautiful
appearance that can be compared only to
selected few new hi-end pianos. |
|
|
|
Many people, when thinking of a "used"
piano, conjure up images of a piano on its
last legs, in terrible need of repair. This
image is based in part on the incredibly
large numbers of such pianos that actually
exist. Neglected and "forgotten" or "as-is"
old pianos are not recommended choice.
But "used" can also refer to several other
classes of piano: |
-
The older piano that still has many years
of life ahead after being thoroughly
professionally restored, is in excellent
working condition and comes with warranty
-
Well-kept piano that needs only minor
repairs to be in good shape;
-
Our piano store often gets newer trade-ins
–modern pianos that are practically like
new; Some pianos like this are great
alternative to new ones, carry a
guarantee, and still cost substantially
less then similar new ones.
|
|
We find that people spend large sums of
money on new pianos that are smaller or of
lower quality than they would have liked, or
that really don't suit their needs, because
they aren't aware of the used-piano option.
Many large stores, new piano retailers with
large inventory of new pianos, do not like
and disqualify used pianos - it is easy to
guess why. |
|
|
|
Used piano that is treated with care,
respect, attention and patience is a
wonderful, lively, unique...work of art;
its sound, appearance, charm, character,
beauty are ..timeless and very special to
us. |
|
|
|
There are other good reasons to buy a used
piano. Since the average life of a quality
piano is around fifty years, and with proper
restoration at least fifty more, it's silly
to waste our resources buying new pianos
only when old ones can be so effectively
reused. Used pianos that we offer are
carefully selected, restored quality pianos
that offer strong (and hard-to-get on new
pianos) structural components, are made
using fine, now time-tested woods; offer
warmth and richness of natural wood; often
have exquisite and/or unique case-design,
leg styles, carved cases, and ivory keys
unavailable today on new pianos - all at
reasonable prices. Many of the companies
that produce new pianos today are huge
conglomerates that turn out pianos by the
thousands in far-away countries… |
|
|
|
It's useful to have some knowledge of piano
terminology and of how a piano works when
looking to buy one. For this reason, we
advice you to drop-by & play, see, hear,
touch... and learn how piano, this
wonderfully complex musical instrument,
works.
