NOTE by Boris & Vesna Hrovat

At FORTE Academy of Music we love teaching and enjoy seeing our students' musical progress. As concerned parents and business people, however, we focus the very best of our ability not only on musical, but those numerous non-musical benefits of study of music. We strongly believe that musical instrument training is one of the most powerful educational tools out there that develops numerous skills for SUCCESS in LIFE!

MUSIC lessons: Training for Life!

Coincidence...or...?

When asked about his famous Theory of Relativity, Albert Einstein -a scientist seriously trained in music replied: "It occurred to me by intuition, and the music was the driving force behind that intuition. My discovery was a result of musical perception..."

(The  images above are showing the scientist, Albert Einstein, making music...)

Recently, USA Today wrote: "Musical training can be a big help in getting to the top of business and politics, according to most congressmen and Chief Executive Officers of Fortune 500 companies.  Ninety three percent of more than 1,000 CEO's and congressmen interviewed during this survey said playing a musical instrument as a child helped them develop "character and leadership skills."

On the more practical note, we like German and Japanese cars, don't we. What makes them good? GM has an answer:

"After our studies are completed we learned that The Japanese and Germans hire musically trained engineers. They consider the study of music important for their engineers.  Playing a musical instrument involves discipline, creativity and conceptualization.  These attributes, added to engineering talent, help produce results that are not only functional but also more harmonious in every way. We are definitely taking a closer look at the CV's of our future engineers!
...Music reaches across cultures and needs no translation."  Shirley Young, Ph.D. VP, General Motors

The study of music – piano training in particular- produces significant non-musical benefits – intellectual, academic, behavioral, social and - health benefits.  Does it all come at once? No - These positive attributes come not all at once, but over the years  of consistent study in a supportive environment. Contrary to that which is taught to our children in the half-hour TV show , the most worthwhile accomplishments in life take months, years of concentrated effort. Effort that pays-off. Mounted scientific evidence is repeatedly confirming an array of intangible benefits only the  study of piano offers:

It requires and improves perseverance, self-discipline, concentration, problem-solving, attention, aesthetic perception; teaches patience, the laws of particles, learning strategies; builds creativity, poise, self-confidence, self-esteem, coordination and self-efficacy.

We deeply believe that one of the best things ever that  happened to us is - our friendship with the piano: With the piano since our childhood... we went through a professional career (Boris is an early-retired dental surgeon, Vesna a food-scientist) we could not and did not leave piano.

At our FORTE Academy of Music today we actively teach and perform but more importantly have a chance to share our passion, have fun, make new friends,  and feel proud seeing our students improve their skills, enjoy their studies.

It goes without saying: Excellence in Music - Excellence in Academics - Excellence in LIFE!

Please, encourage your children to persevere: They may not know that now, but the study of music  is one of the best, life-long, cherished gifts we can possibly give to our children
The Study of Piano Enriches Lives!

FUNDAMENTAL OBJECTIVES                                                                                                                  (Back to top)

Our Students' Musical Education is - Our Top Priority .  In that respect, here are the...

Fundamental Objectives of the Forte Academy of Music
  • To conduct, perform and promote EXCELLENCE in musical education
  • As a professional music educator and Faculty Member of the Forte Academy of Music, to develop human potential in a supportive, enjoyable environment through high quality, comprehensive musical education.
  • To exhibit integrity and professionalism, and to support students as they grow in
    their discipline
  • In demeanor, philosophy and approach to contribute to the well-being of
the Forte Academy of Music and to the community as a whole.
Note on FORTE Mission:

"Musical training is more potent instrument than any other, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul..."  Plato
We are firm believers in music's life-enhancing  qualities.  At Forte Academy of Music we are on the mission of sharing the multiple benefits  of music education with our students, their families and consequently the community through our FORTE Program. We combine the customized, private lesson format in a friendly, fun, supportive atmosphere with frequent live-performance opportunities and concert-series.

Our goal is first and foremost to develop, maintain and flourish  an interest, love and appreciation for music in an inviting, fun, supportive teaching environment. Our comprehensive, progressive, enjoyable program blends necessary basics, best of traditional training with contemporary music in the private-lesson format

We believe that a solid classical musical training is needed and a powerful foundation for further development of any particular style of  "modern music" such as jazz, pop, etc. It is no coincidence that the world's most successful modern music artists are initially classically trained (i.e. Elton John, David Foster, Oscar Peterson...to name a few).

In making a decision about the teaching format, we have not opted for the profitable group classes.  Instead we have chosen PRIVATE LESSONS.  Only by taking PRIVATE LESSONS, will a student receive the individual attention and customized lesson plan tailored to the personal rate of progress.

Forte Academy of Music instructors make a dynamic team of dedicated, fun, friendly, caring professionals, highly motivated and COMMITTED TO DELIVER AN EXCELLENCE IN MUSIC EDUCATION.

By completing the entire RCM curriculum, students are transformed into mature music professionals, ready to further master their music education, or pursue music CAREER OPPORTUNITIES.
CLASSICAL TRAINING MEANS - POPULAR TUNES ARE FORBIDDEN?  NO WAY AT THE Forte Academy of Music & ROYAL CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC CURRICULUM!!!

We are very pleased to announce the introduction of a Popular Selection List for EXAMINATION PURPOSES, as well as for fun!  The popular selection list is a compilation of non-classical pieces carefully selected to suit each grade level. RCM examination candidates in grades 3 to 9 will have the option of  substituting   a piece chosen from the Popular Selection List with one study in these grades.

Each Popular Selection List piece addresses the musical and/or technical aspects of playing the piano relevant to the level and similar to a study while providing the fun of performing current melodies.  Ranging from movie themes to pop tunes, and ragtime to jazz standards, these pieces are also suitable for a performance - in recitals, for friends and for family.

What a fun way of supporting the most valuable classical piano study; by providing the opportunity to play carefully arranged and challenging popular piano pieces.

Forte Academy: Note on School Year

The New 2008/2009 School-Year classes start on September 02, 2008 , it ends on June 27, 2009. The program is 43 weeks in duration and consists of: 40 private lessons, two weeks December holiday and one week March break.  Make-up weeks are the first two weeks in July, 2009

For administration purposes, and in order to offer different payment options, we have split the school year into TWO SEMESTERS (TERMS):

Semester 1: September 02, 2008 to January 31, 2009                                       (Back to top)
Semester 2: February 01, 2009 to June 27, 2009

The first two weeks in July, 2009 are reserved for make-up classes. During that period, allowable missed lessons will be made up.

In providing PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS student's attendance is very important both for the student and the school.  In order to provide great teaching environment for our students, families and teachers we have set up the necessary guidelines and refined our policies according to your needs, expectations and suggestions. Here are details on...

Lessons- times & duration

Lessons are arranged at a time convenient for both student and teacher.  We teach Monday to Friday, 10:30 AM to 8:30 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.  Lessons are minimum 30 minutes long.  We  also offer 45 or 60 minutes long lessons.
Note: A 30-minute private lesson is an adequate choice for a young student at the beginner level and (5-7 years old).  Typically, we recommend 45-min long lessons that, in our experience, produce better results. For all students enrolled in The Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum, a 45-minute long lesson is much recommended.

MISSED LESSONS & MAKE-UP POLICIES;
