 A Note ♪About Digital Pianos by Boris Hrovat, Clarkson Piano Centre 

As a pianist, accompanist, performing musician and teacher, I used many models of digital pianos, and keyboards, produced by various manufacturers since the 1980's. Although my first choice is always an acoustic piano, the reality is that I choose to use a digital piano in some applications because it offers some practical advantages - such as easier transportation, no need for tunings, easy (on-site or on-stage) set-up and connections to the sound-system, mixing, MIDI or recording equipment. Since our piano store was opened, my understanding of practical applications of digital piano has become accompanied by numerous new-product presentations of digital pianos produced by number of manufacturers present on the market today and the inside look into who does what and who says what. 

Lets make it clear that, unlike an acoustic piano, a digital piano is the electronic device with the piano-like keyboard that is distributing the sound produced by the "sound-engine" and amplified by the sound-system through a set of speakers - all much different from an acoustic piano where the sound is produced by hammer striking the string which vibration is transmitted over the wooden bridge onto the sounding-board.  The truth is that most if not all makers today share the internationally available sampling technology and ALL digital pianos do imitate the sound and feel of an acoustic piano - with more or less success. But, please keep in mind, even if tone and feel are imitated with success, all that still is - an imitation.

Now, can we say that only one...only THAT particular one make of digital piano is THE BEST? No, in fact that statement  sound quite silly knowing that there is a WORLD of hard-working companies on the competitive market today offering many different options. Options that I urge you to explore BEFORE you accept the sales pitch about that "best" one. Some of them, quite aggressively try to sell the product that, especially if you are NOT in the market for a hi-end model, is overpriced (often well-advertised) but in reality of "utility grade" - average (or even below average) quality or value. Ultimately, it is up to you to chose, however my commitment to offer "the best possible instrument at the lowest possible cost" and a careful comparative analysis of various makes of digital pianos available on the Canadian market today, done with the much appreciative input and assistance of my colleagues- musicians and instructors, has led me to offer to my customers with confidence, new digital pianos made by the following manufacturers:
